While the Gothic style started appearing before the Victorian times it is often associated with the Victorians because many architects during the time used the Gothic stye in their buildings. A great number of the older buildings in London show evidence of some form of Gothic influence. A prime example is Westminster Hall.
Westminster Hall is the home of Britain's Parliament and the building has many Gothic elements. The high arched ceiling, shown here, is classic Gothic style and gives the room a lot of space. The architect Charles Barry used the Gothic style to keep the feeling of greatness when the Hall was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1834. Further beyond Victorian times, bombing in WWII caused damage to Westminster Hall as well. Again when they rebuilt they kept the same classic Gothic style for the building. Tour Westminster Hall today and these Gothic elements, which are everywhere, will be pointed out to you.
Examples of Gothic architecture show up all over the world, in churches, town halls, bridges, and buildings of importance. The Gothic style gives the building a unique yet classic look that gives a great first impression.
